With the recent detection of gravitational waves, a new window has opened for studying the universe. Because gravitational waves interact weakly with matter, they can pass through matter without being affected significantly. Due to this, they are very important in the study of the early universe. In this thesis, the interaction of gravitational waves and electromagnetic waves is studied in the Minkowski and de-Sitter spacetime. The explicit form of the perturbations (describing electromagnetic waves) is solved in the presence of a gravitational wave in the Minkowski background. We find a new frequency mode of the perturbed electromagnetic wave and analyze for resonance. The nature of the wave interaction is dependent on the relative direction of propagation of both the waves. For the de-Sitter spacetime background, the inhomogeneous wave equations for the perturbed electromagnetic wave are solved and we find a similar new mode which modulates the electromagnetic wave.en_US
