Organizations that deliver career programs and services are frequently pressured to be accountable for their work. Government agencies and other funding sources increasingly demand evidence of effective practice. Yet career development professionals do not commonly conduct systematic evaluations of their interventions and programs, placing the field of career development in a tenuous position. Academics, practitioners and policy makers have all identified a need to promote research on the efficacy of career development initiatives and to encourage the dissemination of information on effective strategies. This project offers a response, "IMPACT: A Clearinghouse for Information on the Efficacy of Career Development Strategies." An extensive annotated bibliography was compiled to form the foundation of the web site's data base on the efficacy of career development interventions and services. Site users can search for relevant resources, add resources to the data base, and obtain guidance on conducting effective evaluations of their own. As a prototype, the IMP ACT web site still requires some modifications, but it demonstrates one way to improve access to information, foster collaboration, and encourage research into the efficacy of career development programs. A deliberate marketing strategy is required to help secure support from stakeholders and ultimately to ensure that the IMPACT web site realizes its full potential.en
