Medication administration constitutes a key element of acute care delivery, while errors in the process threaten patient safety. The purpose of the study is to explore patients’ perceptions, attitudes and beliefs about the safety practices utilized by nurses when administering medications. Specifically, the study addresses patients’ perceptions of nurse behaviours regarding safe medicine administration, patient behaviours, patients’ perceptions and nurse behaviours regarding pain medicine, patients’ perceptions of nursing care, and patients’ perceptions of their participation/accountability in care. The results identify key safety issues from a patients’ perspective to focus change strategies that will improve patient care.en
