dc.description.abstract | There is a prevailing narrative in the nursing literature that nurses are absent or invisible at macro-level policy discussions and that nurses lack influence in the macro-level policy sphere. To overcome these concerns, there are repeated calls for nursing leaders to enact their nursing voice at the macro-level. Yet, few studies have been undertaken that explore the experiences of nursing leaders in macro-level health policy, to either refute or substantiate this narrative. My purpose in this study was to begin to address this gap, especially in a Canadian context. Findings from this qualitative descriptive study revealed the elements of nursing voice in macro-level health policy work to be; perspective, presence and political. Further, the findings challenged the prevailing narrative of the lack of influence by nurses and highlighted some of the internal and external limitations to the profession’s influence in macro-level health policy. | en_US |
