dc.description.abstract | The effects of the Indian Residential School (IRS) system “continues to undermine the well-being of today’s Indigenous population, and having familial history of IRS attendance has also been linked with more frequent contemporary stressor experiences and relatively greater effects of stressors on well-being” (Bombay, Matheson & Anisman, 2013, p.320). The effects of the IRS system have been shown to present itself in the healthcare setting, therefore, Registered Nurses need the knowledge and understanding in practice to appropriately care for these individuals. The project purpose was to develop a workshop to assist NESA faculty and instructors inform their nursing students about the IRS system, how this history affects Indigenous health, and how this education can help develop empathy and understanding for this population within their nursing students. | en_US |
