Intimate partner violence affects women’s mental, social and physical health. The purpose of this study is to understand the demographics, social, religious, cultural and familial experiences of eight Canadian Muslim women who experienced IPV. In addition, this study explores the role of immigration and the physical and mental health consequences of IPV among these women. Using a mixed method design, the women were purposively selected and interviewed. Six themes emerged: childhood of trauma and violence, iron cage of society, prey to the potion of love, escape from oppression, the turning points, and the toll and consequences of IPV. The results suggest differences in the experience of IPV between Canadian-born and Canadian immigrant women. Using quantitative measures, the study also revealed the negative effect of IPV on different aspects on women’s lives. Implications for service-providers and future research on this important health issue among Canadian Muslim women are discussed.en_US
