Abstract
In 2002, Health Canada (First Nations and Inuit Health Branch) funded the
Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) to facilitate a national task
force on Aboriginal nursing. The task force was co-chaired by Dr. David Gregory
and Professor Fjola Hart Wasekeesikaw. Recommendations from this task force
centered on five thematic areas: preparation; recruitment; admission, nursing
access and bridging programs; student progression; and, post-graduation
recruitment and retention.
Against the Odds: An Update on Aboriginal Nursing in Canada provides a “snapshot”
picture of progress made during the past five years.
