dc.description.abstract | This project examines secondary traumatic stress (STS) and related concepts in the context of the child-welfare system. The relationship between child protection work and STS is highlighted, as well as the impact that STS has on workers in this field. To gain a more accurate understanding of the condition, I argue that existing terms related to helper trauma responses be classified more consistently under the rubric of STS. By synthesizing the classification of helper responses in such a way, an increased understanding of the condition may lead to enhanced professional education that addresses STS. A sample Table of Contents and STS assessment measure is included for the future development of a desk manual tool for child protection workers. | en_US |
