dc.description.abstractFetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is the leading cause of intellectual disability in Canada, affecting thousands of Canadians each year. It occurs due to prenatal alcohol exposure and results in a variety of cognitive, regulatory, and physical challenges. Additionally, individuals with FASD frequently experience struggles with emotional regulation and mental health disorders. Given the high prevalence of FASD in Canada, and the frequent co-occurrence of mental illness, it is highly likely that all mental health service providers will work with individuals living with FASD. However, mental health professionals are often not equipped to manage the complex needs of these individuals. This project aims to support professionals in understanding the impacts of FASD and how to adapt service delivery. A manual was created which provides information on the occurrence of FASD, the various challenges which may be present, and strategies and resources to adapt service delivery. It is the authors intention that the manual may support professionals in adopting an FASD-Informed lens in order to facilitate positive mental health outcomes for those living with FASD.en_US
